Flying Horse – Quippini

Pentax FLYING HORSE

Pentax FLYING HORSE

So here is a short film by my long suffering assistant Paul Mckelvie. Paul is an ace right hand man and even better camera man.

Paul shot while we did the Flying Horse shoot several weeks back. Featuring the wonderful Chloe Jasmine-Whichello, Gemita Samarra and horse Scarlett.

Quippini - by Paul Mckelvie

It is good to point out early on, that Paul shot this around the photoshoot that I was doing, which made elements of the film shoot very difficult for him to control ( as you can see he still ripped it up). Under normal circumstances, stills are normally shot around film shoots.

The primary job here however, were the stills. The shoot was to test and review the Pentax 645 against the Sigma SD1 Merrill. This review can be found in Digital Photographer Magazine that came out a few months ago.

Paul wanted the short film to be complementary to the stills I took, and hopefully you will see some of the visual elements in the photographs reflected in it. The film is quite abstract, but is really about helping set a mood for the images I created.

The rather large team all had a very early and cold start to the day (see film credits for the full list of all involved) and the shoot wouldn’t have been possible with everyone involved. Especially Scarlet who was happy to get a decent run at the end of the shoot after being a great model and standing still for so long.

Shooting the epic Pentax was just a blast. We shot the “FLYING HORSE” shot on the 1,1fps Pentax. ( Who says you need 11 frames per second !!)  I shall be posting a full write up of the Pentax and the Sigma in weeks to come. but, For now now, here is the video and some stills from the shoot.

Big thank you to 3 Legged Thing, Sigma, Pentax, all the PR guys, all the crew and EVERYone who helped. A huge thank you to Michele Luckwell & Penny Hall !! We could not of done this without you.
