We got ready for a cold and wet weekend but over the three and a bit days, we would not see a drop of water that was not in the sea where it was meant to be. The Gower Peninsula is a stunning landscape; we spent most of our time at Rhossili beach and the surrounding area. We went on a couple of good walks around the local hills and sand dunes.
To get to Worms Head you have to plan your crossing while there is a break in the tide (2.5 hours either side of low tide), navigate over a jagged couple of jagged causeways and up some pretty steep slopes before getting to the highest points and be rewarded with some stunning views.
On Rhossili Beach, at low tide the remains of the Halvetia can be seen, the wreck has been at Rhossili since 1887, wrecked during a severe Gale. The ship was carrying 500 tons of Oak which reportedly made the locals very rich. More info on the ship can be found here. (Link)
At Whiteford point, there is an abandoned Victorian Lighthouse. Whiteford Lighthouse is the only remaining cast iron lighthouse surrounded by the sea in the United Kingdom. It was built in 1865. For those who want to have a look (coordinates: 51°39′09.18″N 4°15′03.90″W, you can find it here)
On our last night we decided to try and catch the sun sunset over Worms Head, So at 7:00 we headed down to the beach to get some nice photos of the wreck and water lowdown close to the water, then a quick dash up the steps and along the path to enjoy a glass of Rose and watch the sun set for another day. Simply stunning. Later that evening we let off some lanterns that drifted off into the welsh sky. With the risk of sounding too girlie, it was very pretty.
Just as a side note, I did try and get some photos of the stars. A few attempts at finding the right shutter speed ( 3 mins @ 1000 iso, f3.5) was about right to get some detail but it was too windy to get any stable shots. But the best thing about camping is, BREAKFAST !

O2 Academy | Birmingham
· Eigthwave
· Saving Aimee
· Go:Audio
When i get to a venue, i always like to hang around outside, to kinda soak-up the crowd. When i got to the Academy i just saw a long string of 15-18 year old girls, felt a bit like a hi-school disco. I to check if i had the right date and it was in fact GO:AUDIO and not N-Dubz who is playing the day after. ( I got the right day, thank god.) I guess, in a way, it is nice to see that there is going to be a future for pop-punk, I wonder if these same bands today will turn out tainted by bands like busted and Mc-Fly. It does seem to me the same crowd that are here tonight, as would watch every single x-factor show.
The crowd, Dear lord, Very noisy. From the reception for the first band (EigthWave) strong and seemed to set the tone for the rest of the evening, onstage, they matched the crowd as people were happy enough to bounce around to each song, which is fair as they were good enough! It was a much better reception than your average metal band would get. It is also worth noting, due the age of most of the people here, getting to the bar was nice and easy. Sweet. Next up,
Saving Aimee, who were almost “out screamed” by the mass of girls who instantly reacted to the bands happy-electro-punked-up riffs. Saving Aimee, tonight, were full of cheesy and cheerful sounds. They were in fact doing what they do best. Having fun by the bucket load.
The main band of today, GO:AUDIO, took to the stage to a deafening crowd, the noise, Birmingham tonight were loud, Go:AUDIO ripped it up from the start. The crowd sang along to every of almost every single song. The days running up to the gig I have been catching up with GO: AUDIO on Last Fm, this just wetted my appetite for tonight. On stage, they were tight, powerful and full of life, Great show, Great crowd, and Great fun. Which for me sums up what live music should be all about? For the encore, James Matthews (lead singer) came back out showing his support for Aston Villa, wearing their colours with pride. It’s easy to predict big things for the future. They wrapped up the show in fine form with “Drive to the city”, “She Left Me” and “Made up stories” taken from the Album of the same name, out on April 20th 2009
