When i get to a venue, i always like to hang around outside, to kinda soak-up the crowd. When i got to the Academy i just saw a long string of 15-18 year old girls, felt a bit like a hi-school disco. I to check if i had the right date and it was in fact GO:AUDIO and not N-Dubz who is playing the day after. ( I got the right day, thank god.) I guess, in a way, it is nice to see that there is going to be a future for pop-punk, I wonder if these same bands today will turn out tainted by bands like busted and Mc-Fly. It does seem to me the same crowd that are here tonight, as would watch every single x-factor show.
The crowd, Dear lord, Very noisy. From the reception for the first band (EigthWave) strong and seemed to set the tone for the rest of the evening, onstage, they matched the crowd as people were happy enough to bounce around to each song, which is fair as they were good enough! It was a much better reception than your average metal band would get. It is also worth noting, due the age of most of the people here, getting to the bar was nice and easy. Sweet. Next up,
Saving Aimee, who were almost “out screamed” by the mass of girls who instantly reacted to the bands happy-electro-punked-up riffs. Saving Aimee, tonight, were full of cheesy and cheerful sounds. They were in fact doing what they do best. Having fun by the bucket load.
The main band of today, GO:AUDIO, took to the stage to a deafening crowd, the noise, Birmingham tonight were loud, Go:AUDIO ripped it up from the start. The crowd sang along to every of almost every single song. The days running up to the gig I have been catching up with GO: AUDIO on Last Fm, this just wetted my appetite for tonight. On stage, they were tight, powerful and full of life, Great show, Great crowd, and Great fun. Which for me sums up what live music should be all about? For the encore, James Matthews (lead singer) came back out showing his support for Aston Villa, wearing their colours with pride. It’s easy to predict big things for the future. They wrapped up the show in fine form with “Drive to the city”, “She Left Me” and “Made up stories” taken from the Album of the same name, out on April 20th 2009
